Josh Schmieder established his company in spring of 2002. However, Josh found his love for the landscaping and outdoor living construction when he was only 10 years old. Josh started mowing neighbors lawns as a way to buy a fourwheeler. As Josh got older and graduated from highschool, started college, and officially went into business in 2002. Josh had the goal at age 17 for his company to become a leader in landscaping in the Rochester and fingerlakes region. Josh Landscaping has grown from just a couple guys doing lawn care to a 25-30 person team of craftsmen specializing in full outdoor living spaces and full landscape care. Josh’s story has been featured in a national industry trade magazine (Lawn & Landscape Magazine). Josh has his degree in business administration, and has gone to school for horticulture.
Today, Josh measures success on 3 key components - quality of work, customer service, and his team’s ability to meet their personal goals. It’s not just enough for Josh if his company is profitable, those three items come before anything else. They are part of the company’s core values.
Josh and his team have won many awards and have had projects featured in national publications for excellent craftsmanship and design. They have also won many awards through GardenScape association for multiple straight years.
Josh has volunteered for years at his church, as a firefighter, an EMT, and is also involved in many community causes.
Josh gives all of the credit for any success to God and says that without him he would have failed years ago. When Josh isn’t working, he loves spending time with his family. He also enjoys hiking, snowmobiling, horseback riding, and has been actively involved in professional rodeo for many years (bull riding and bronc riding).
Ken has loved repairing and managing equipment for as long as he can remember. Ken helped manage a large fleet of trucks for years servicing Kodak (one of the leading company’s in Rochester). However, Ken couldn’t get enough of just working 8 hours a day 5 days a week so he decided to start his own small engine repair shop. Ken worked out of his home shop for years servicing residential clients and their small equipment for many years. Ken became a master ASE (auto) Technician and today has 30 years of experience.
Ken joined the Josh Landscaping team in 2013 as fleet and facility manager. He was hired not just for his vast experience but also for his ability to help lead and train.
Ken has served for many years in many local community causes including: fire chief, EMT on the local ambulance, and many other causes. He currently is a member of the American Legion Riders, Patriot Guard Riders. He loves spending time with friends and his wife, fishing and boating.
Nancy is the one who instilled in Josh (as his mother) his work ethic. Josh needed help in the office answering phones and with billing. Nancy started in the office two days a week just a year or two after Josh went into business to help with the overload and so clients would have someone to talk to when they called the office. Since then, Nancy has become office manager and handles all of the HR for the company, works with the company accountant and over sees the other office professionals. Nancy isn’t new to an office and small business. Nancy (before having kids) had her own business, a dance studio. She has always loved small business (which is where Josh probably gets it from) and really enjoys handling the day to day office work.
Nancy is also a Licensed Massage Therapist and likes to help people in her spare time. Nancy and her husband Jim (Josh’s dad) have 5 children and three grandchildren. Nancy’s joy outside of work is her family. She helps with and leads many ministries in her church. She has a passion for helping people, gardening and her country home.
Marie joined our team back in 2008. Nancy couldn’t keep up in the office as Josh Landscaping grew and needed more office support. Marie was an office professional for years before joining the Josh Landscaping team and brought a great deal of organization and ability to interact with clients. Marie has grown with the company and now handles all of the accounts receivable, billing for clients, and assists in HR and office management. Marie is a very talented team member!
Marie and her husband enjoy spending time with their children and grandchildren. Marie likes traveling to Florida to get a break from the cold winter weather.
Matt has a passion for design. Growing up Matt loved working in his Mom's gardens growing up and always had at least a dozen plants growing in his room. He always had a interest in architecture. Matt started in the industry back in 2003 and that’s when he decided to go to school to Penn State University for Landscape Architecture to pursue a career in this industry as a professional. His love for Landscaping/plants and Architecture made this career a perfect fit. Matt finished his BA in Landscape Architecture. When Matt graduated from college he worked for a firm in Maryland for 3 years before moving to NY to join the Josh Landscaping team in early 2009. Matt has a natural eye for design and is especially talented in 3D computer renderings. This allows the client to fly through the project and view it before it’s even started.
